On 11 November 1918, after 123 years of subjugation, Poland regained its independence.

To mark the centenary of the restoration of Poland’s independence, the Regional Centre for Cultural Animation in Zielona Góra and the Lubuski Song and Dance Ensemble named after Ludwik Figas organised a series of additional activities during the Faces of Tradition International Folklore Festival, Zielona Góra 2018.

From 16 to 18 July 2018, Lubuski Teatr hosted Festival Concert showcases featuring “Zlatna Trakia” (Bulgaria), “Hulajniki” (Poland), “Bitola” (Macedonia), “49 Junior High School East Jakarta” (Indonesia) and “Branko Radičević” (Serbia). The festival host, the Lubuski Song and Dance Ensemble, performed on 18 July. Three age groups — children, young people and adults — and a singing group took part. In tribute to independent Poland, Lubuski opened its performance with a beautiful polonaise performed by the adult group and patriotic songs prepared by the singing group. The youngest group presented the programme “Postraszymy je…!”, while the youth group performed “Łowickie dyngusowanie”. Finally, the adult group presented dances from the Opoczno region.

The Lubuski Song and Dance Ensemble’s concert ended with thunderous applause from the audience.
